It's a remake based on a Norwegian movie titled "In Order of Disappearance". The story follows of a man named Nelson Coxman, played by Liam Neeson, a local snowplough driver who sets out for a revenge on a local drug lord following the murder of his son.
REVIEW
The basic plot of the movie does have similarities to Liam Neeson's other movie titled Taken. We follow Liam Neeson's character as this local snowplough driver who discovered that his son was murdered by one of the local drug lord. It's essentially a revenge movie and we get to see Liam's character tracking and killing each of the people who were responsible to his son's death.
I liked the pacing from the movie during its first half. We get to see the action as early from film and it sets-up the movie of how dark and violent it is. Liam, who's been in an action-thriller films recently, was really good on this one. Considering his age, he can still able to make this kind of movies. I liked most of the actions from the film. Compared to his Taken movies, the action are less but it impacted a lot. I also liked that everytime a character dies from the movie, they will show this extra scene with a black background having their names written on it. It adds a bit of a shocking factor without seeing their deaths being shown from the movie.
The story from the first half was indeed interesting. Seeing him in a revenge path to avenge his son's death is always satisfying, at least for me to see the bad guys being killed. But as the story goes along, the story developed into more than just a revenge story and my interests towards it wasn't just the same as the first half of the movie. I mean, I liked the story more when it was about Nelson trying to avenge his son's death because to me it felt more personal and I just didn't like that they introduced more characters at the half part of it. I think the movie could still work without the additional characters being introduced and just have it with Nelson crawling up till he get to the main villain of the movie. It's a long movie so the running time of it didn't help as well.
OVERALL
COLD PURSUIT is a violent film with some good action sequences and great performance from Liam Neeson. The premise is basically like a Taken movie blended with some humor in it. The story was interesting at first but I got lost interest of it as the movie goes along.
