Every children's most awaited movie of the year. Frozen 2 is a sequel to Frozen which was released last 2015 in which that movie broke some records towards it box office success. Not only that, it gave us some really good songs with the likes of "Let it Go", "Do you wanna build a Snowman" and etc. There were some storylines left unanswered from the original movie in which this sequel's storyline is where the focus of it. The only questions that we need to answer is these, Does this sequel hold up the good quality from the original movie? Does this sequel will have another song in the same level of "Let it Go"? Will it break the box office records like what the original movie did?
Let's go first to its animation. In comparison from the first movie, I'd say that Frozen 2 is far more superior than its original movie well maybe just a tiny bit. They really up the notch in term of its animation and visuals and you could really see just how wonderful and colorful the kingdom of Arendelle and far beyond that as well. There is this scene from the first trailer in which Elsa was trying to cross an ocean and seeing it in a little media player from Youtube felt real. It was even more beautiful seeing it from the final output in the big screen. There is nothing groundbreaking that has been achieved towards the animation but you can certainly see some differences and improvements from this movie comparing it from the first one. As for the original songs, there were some good songs that I really liked. I'm not sure if it will be in the level of "Let it Go" popularity but this particular song "Into the Unknown" being sang at the early phase of the film (the same as Let it Go) is certainly a good candidate. There are also songs that didn't really click to me but if I'm going to listen to them for a few more days, probably it will grow on me. In terms of characters, they did introduced some new faces but some of them didn't really have much part on its story but rather they are just accessories to the story. Some of them really were really likable characters and interesting ones I would certainly like to know more of these characters in the future Frozen sequels (if there will be).
Now, this is where it all falls down for me. The STORY. I think the story of Frozen 2 for me was kind of vague, predictable and overall just underwhelming. I like the idea that they explored some of the unanswered questions from the first movie but I really didn't like the choices that they made in answering that question and at the same time moving forward the story. The ending didn't even feel much magical and I would also say that it didn't feel much emotional than the original. I did enjoy some chunks of it but I didn't really appreciate how the story went and I think they could have done something different to it that would certainly provide a much better result than the final output that we have right now. It's really rare for a sequel to be as good as the first movie but considering how exceptionally well made the first movie was. It is a tough job to follow.
OVERALL
Frozen 2 has some beautiful animations, mesmerizing visuals, catchy songs and likable characters. However, it did suffer towards its story and decision making and I think they could have done a different route in moving forward the story. There are some laughs from some of the scenes and well certainly provides enjoyment to kids or children in general (after all, it's a movie catered for children). I would really suggest this movie if you have kids or little nephews that you would like going out on a movie night weekend as this movie will certainly entertain them but as a fan of movies in general, I would probably give this a pass. People will still be flocking in seeing this movie and I wouldn't even be surprised if this movie will have the same box office success from its predecessor.
