REVIEW
The first movie may have some issues with Godzilla's limited screen time. This sequel may have addressed that issue but it doesn't mean that the movie would be any good. It is also not that bad as I would say since I did have a good time watching it. Let us breakdown below what are the hits and misses of this new sequel of Godzilla.
Let us start with the misses. First off, the movie introduced to us with new characters to play with. These new faces are quite popular considering they were also part of the other big franchises like Millie Bobby Brown from Netflix's Strange Things and Vera Farmiga from Conjuring Universe. However, their backstory were not properly introduced and I just did not really feel their motivations. It feels like those characters were just quickly introduced and under developed during the first few minutes of the film and just quickly move on with their story just so it could proceed to the main plot of it. Some of the characters didn't really have enough growth storywise which makes them very hard to relate to. What made the first movie good was the emotional impact of it and I just didn't feel any of it especially when it is going to be from one of the human leads of the movie. The second issue that I find from the movie is its story. The story is not as coherent as the first movie. There are so many things that are going on around from it and you kind of get lost towards its story especially if you're someone who is not quite familiar with this franchise. Its tone is somewhat lighter than the first. The sequel leans a bit more to the comedy rather than the serious tone from the first movie. It's not that I'm complaining so long as the comedy plays perfectly right into its moment but then it just completely negates the vibe especially when a city is being destroyed and possibly that millions of people died because of these giant monsters.
On the brighter note, the movie does contain some of the eye-popping and visually striking monster clash scenes. As I said, I may not able to fully accepted the overall story but I did have some fun watching all the scenes in which all the Titans have been involved. The fight scenes were indeed clearer as you can see these intricate details from the monsters but there were parts of it that was also dark. The music scores were also epic as it really fits well whenever these huge monsters appears into the screen.
OVERALL
GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is an enjoyable movie as long as you don't take it seriously and just want to watch some epic big monster fights. I am a huge fan with these monster movies and I'll watch it any day so long as it still entertains me. The story is subpar however we get to see more Godzilla in this one. There is going to be a sequel on this which is titled Godzilla vs Kong to be released in 2020. Hopefully that they could have these characters developed more but still also retain the huge and epic fight scenes from the Titans. It's still worth the money if you're going to ask me but I would also recommend for you to wait for the Digital copy of it.
