King of Thieves is a crime thriller British movie that is based on a real-life robbery event happened on the Hatton Garden Deposit Company in London in 2015. The robbery was said to be the "largest burglary in English legal history" as the total amount that was robbed was around 200million pounds. The heist was planned and carried out by four elderly men who were experienced thieves during their young age. The movie is directed by James Marsh with Joe Penhall penning the screenplay and stars renowned actors such as Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Charlie Cox, Michael Gambon, and Ray Winstone.
The plot of this movie reminded me of the other movie which Michael Caine has also starred in 2017's "Going in Style". It shares a similar plot in which a group of elderly men who planned and carried out a heist from a local bank. The only difference is that this movie was based on a real-life event which happened in 2015 and a lot of money was robbed and stolen by a group of elderly men. For a crime thriller film, this movie certainly lacks some thrills. The heist wasn't even exciting and the movie was really long. It feels long because the moment the heist was finished, nothing pretty much happens after that. I didn't like the pacing of it and there wasn't much of a build-up to the actual heist. I really expected to see an exciting and thrilling heist and it just ended up with a bunch of talking and nonsense scenes which they could have lessened up the runtime of the movie and just wrap it all up. It's hard to tell what this movie is all about but it tends to do so much that its identity got really lost on me along the way. There's really nothing much to take after watching this movie. Yes, it's a good thing that somehow I know this kind of history for some other locations but as movie standpoint, it's pretty much a pale and boring heist movie that was just a waste of renowned talented actors.

OVERALL
KING OF THIEVES is not the kind of a heist movie that I should certainly recommend to anyone. The movie doesn't have its own sense of direction that is just filled with these nonsense and meaningless extra scenes. The movie lacks with thrills and it was utterly disappointing seeing these respected men in a very bad movie. If you want to see a fun and thrill heist that involves around a group of elderly men, go watch "Going In Style" instead. At least that movie made me feel some emotions rather than this one.
