Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero film directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman and is based on a Marvel Comics from the Spiderman series. The story is written by Phil Lord in which plot follows multiple Spiderman from a different dimension teaming up to save New York city from the hands of Kingpin. There are a lot of versions of Spiderman from the comics in which we have the Miles Morales version voiced by Shameik Moore who became a Spiderman after the death of the original Spiderman “Peter Parker”. We also have Jake Johnson voicing as Peter B. Parker, a Spiderman from another dimension in which is the exact opposite of Peter Parker from Morale’s dimension. He is somewhat a middle-aged man who is out of shape, untidy and a washed-up hero who teaches Miles Morales the way of becoming Spiderman. There are other prominent names voicing other versions of Spiderman, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman, Nicolas Cage as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man Noir, and Chris Pine as Peter Parker (Morales dimension). There are so many Spiderman full featured films already released and out all of them, this one blew them out of the water. It’s the best take on Spiderman and what I mean best, it’s the funniest, the most action-packed, most emotional, and it’s just so fun. When I see the first trailer of this film, I was really skeptical about the animation of it but after seeing more of it from the movie, I really love the animation of this film. It literally is like a comic book art turning to life and I also like how they add subtly the dialogue from the movie like in the form of a comics. This movie really blew me away from how amazing the end product was. The editing was top-notched, the animation was just stunning and the characters were very written very well. I also liked the music coming from this film and I’m quite shocked that the Sunflower song didn’t get any nomination for Best Original Song. The action sequences of this film were without a doubt, flawless. It’s so detailed and it’s so well choreographed that is just so pleasing to see in the eyes together with the style of its animation. The world is so bright and beautiful and the jokes from this film really work. It’s a really funny film with well-executed jokes that doesn’t feel forced. The dynamic between Miles Morales and Peter B. Parker was also good and it kinda reminded me of a light version of Batman and Robin. Jake Johnson voicing Peter B. Parker fits so much as a middle-aged Spiderman and I just couldn’t help it but listen to more of it while he gives pieces of advice to the young Spiderman, Morales. The movie is a light-hearted film but there is a dark and tragic story behind it. If only I saw this film earlier (I missed this because of its limited screening due to the Metro Manila Film Fest), this would have been on my TOP 5 movies of 2018. It’s just really that good.

OVERALL

SPIDER-MAN : INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is a very very great film. I had so much fun with it. The characters were great, the animation was stunning, and the action sequences were so cool to look at. I like the story behind this film and I’m so looking forward from them to make more of these having the same style of the animation. The award for Best Animated Feature from the Oscar is this movie’s award to lose. It deserved to win the Best Animated Feature for all the reasons that I have mentioned from my review. I was so entertained by it and I highly recommend this film to everyone to watch.
