US is a horror mystery thriller film written and directed by Jordan Peele, the genius mind who also brought us the other horror thriller film "Get Out". The film stars Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke both of which starred on the MCU's Black Panther and follows a family who lived in a suburban place who was attacked by a group of family who later revealed as doppelgangers of themselves.

Man, this movie is something else. The story, the execution, the details, the music, and the scores were just so so good. Without spoiling anything from his previous film "Get Out", if you have not watched it, the plot of that film was already crazy. In this film, its plot is way crazier than that and what makes these films of him so unique and so good is that he can tell an original and detailed story that can also be associated to some of the social and political issues that we have right now. It's not of a priority of the film to tell that kind of story but it really challenges your mind to think deeper of it. I watched the film uneasy and it brought me to the edge of my seat. It's so intense and so thrilling that it kinda reminded me of how I felt watching the last year horror film "A Quiet Place". The movie starts with a very intriguing opening scene that really sets up the tone of the movie. I like the music playing during the opening credits of the film showing the names of the people who made the film. I thought it was really chilling and haunting. The first half may feel a bit boring but it just amped up the tension once it transitions into that house invasion scene of the film. Lupita's performance was outstanding and definitely was the standout from the film. She provides the heavy lifting in terms of the dramatic and emotional side while Winston plays as the comic relief that provides a lighter tone of the film. Some of his lines and Dad jokes were really funny however it doesn't really compromise the whole darker tone of the film which to me is a big plus. Both of them really had good chemistry which makes this film even more entertaining to watch. The plot of the film is confusing at first. There were clues and hints carefully shown on the film that can also make you guess the overall plot of the film. However, the director is so damn good directing each set pieces and really makes the film so unpredictable. It's really hard to predict the film and the good thing is that even though you might predict some of the plot, you will still be surprised during the revelation of it. It really is an intriguing film and I definitely had one of the notable experiences that I have watching a film from the cinema where everybody is having the same reactions and questions revolving around the film.

OVERALL

US is a memorable, unpredictable, thrilling, scary and mind-fucked film that really puts you at the edge of your seat. Jordan Peele, yet again created another movie that will be an integral part of pop-culture and will be forever be remembered for what it is. Watching the film really was unsettling. Jordan Peele has established himself as one of the best and original directors and writers out there who can come up with such wild ideas such as this and I wouldn't mind it because it's also refreshing to know that we can have this type of movie amidst of all the superheroes and sci-fi films that we have right now. It truly is one of the best films that I have seen this year and although the Oscar season was just recently concluded, I would bet that this film will definitely be nominated as one of the Best Picture of 2019.
