Velvet Buzzsaw is a Netflix thriller-horror movie written and directed by Dan Gilroy. The plot follows of an art critic who got haunted by a mysterious entity from a group of paintings previously owned by a disease artist. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton and other familiar faces that you would recognize and is currently available in Netflix for you to watch.

The movie does have a really interesting and unique plot. The plot does seem to have a very rich background if it was to be expounded more but I think it was really interesting at first. The movie starts seems to be slow so expect that the horror portion of the film would come late. As a horror movie, I wasn't really got thrilled about it. The movie seems to be lacking in terms of providing suspense and thrills to the audiences. I like the performances of the casts especially Jake Gyllenhaal playing as Morf Vandewalt who is an art critic. He sometimes plays an over-the-top character like what he did on his other movie "Okja" but in this movie, his performance was really well balanced that also provides some quirky performances. I was honestly interested in the plot of the movie at first but I didn't like how this movie played-out up until the ending of it. It felt that the movie didn't explain more enough of how these paintings have become haunted. I was really hoping for the writer to expound more of it but the end result, it just feels lacking to me. The movie is still good as a whole. I liked how the ending played out. It made more sense and is believable unlike the other movie which shares a somewhat similar situation of its ending.

OVERALL

VELVET BUZZSAW is somewhat a good film that felt to me was lacking and was not polished well enough in terms of its storyline. Jake Gyllenhall proved to be one of the best actors working today as he delivers a very notable performance. I didn't feel enough thrills and suspense coming from a horror genre. The start of the movie was really interesting but I kinda lost some interest along the way of it as the suspense or horror part took to long to unveil. The movie is not really that bad but it feels to me like a Bird Box situation again, a movie that has a promising start but ultimately didn't live up to its expectation.
