MOVIE PLOT

The movie is a loosely remake to the original movie "What Women Want" released in 2000. The plot of the original movie follows a man who has the ability to hear women inner thoughts. This movie ventures on the opposite side of it and we have a woman as the lead character who gained the same ability but this time hearing the inner thoughts of men.

REVIEW

I can't really recall much about my opinion of the original movie since I watched it a very long time ago. I also didn't able to watch it again to refresh my memory of it so I can't really compare much between the two versions of it. What I can say about the new movie is that it can be fun at times but also can be silly. As far as I can remember, I felt more of the romantic side of it from the original than this newest movie.

We have this character Alison Davis, who is played by Taraji P. Henson, working in a sports agency company filled with men agents. I was thinking of other fields that are filled with men in position and in my mind, I was thinking of the technical fields such as engineering or even on the construction. I really liked that idea of having it in the sports agency cause having that specific ability, it is quite useful and she can use it to her advantage to bringing in more young athletes to their agency. Taraji played her character well. I mean, I've seen her in other comedy movies also recently in Hidden Figures, which I thought she played it so amazingly from that movie, and she was really effective in both comedic and dramatic moments. The tone of the movie really leaned into the comedic side of it. I just don't quickly appreciate dirty or green jokes that much and the movie has a ton of that. Some of them was bearable but some of it was just really over the top. The pacing of the movie was kind of slow at first. If you didn't have any information about the movie's plot nor have watched the original of it, you will feel the slowness of its story's build-up. The character story of Alison was also good. I liked her arc from being this snotty and deceitful turned into a much better version of herself. It's not that type of character development in which they just included it without justifying or putting more background to it. They set it up pretty well and you really get to understand her more once they revealed her character more from the movie. As I said, the movie can also be this funny. When you hear some of the inner thoughts of the other men, I laughed so hard from those because they were all just hilarious.

OVERALL

WHAT MEN WANT can be an enjoyable movie if you don't take it quite seriously. There were also some dramatic moments from the movie but it felt to me that these were all quickly covered-up by the high amount of jokes coming from the film. These jokes were funny and hilarious and some of them were mostly involved with dirty or sex jokes which to me felt was unnecessary to have. The movie has a very intriguing plot. It's basically any other movies that you've seen dealing with psychic powers told in a lighter tone. I would say that I liked more the original version of it. As far as I can remember, I felt the fantasy element to it and it is also much more romantic than the newer version. It maybe because that I have an older taste in terms of movies and modern-comedy isn't really that appealing to me.
