REVIEW
It is the newest addition to Netflix's Original Films and though Netflix sometimes delivered the goods, there are also those movies that are just stinkers. It has been a while since I watched a good romantic-comedy movie and "Always Be My Maybe" really nailed it for me. The movie works because of its witty humor and a very charismatic leads that not only it will make you excited of their love story but will also make you bursts out of laughter just because it is just so naturally funny.
The movie really shows you that a Romantic Comedy isn't really about a good looking guy falling in love with a damsel-in-distress girl. Well in fact, it sort of the opposite of it. We have Sasha played by Ali Wong who is an independent women who climbed on top as a Celebrity Chef while her childhood friend Marcus played by Randall Park is a struggling musician who is afraid to go beyond his limit. I really like their chemistry in this film and their individual story is just as interesting as them. The humor also stands out. It didn't feel like it was forced and it just came out naturally. The emotions of the movie is as also strong as its humor. The ending almost got me into tears. The story is also good and is quite relatable. I like the character story of the two leads. Keanu Reeves was also a selling point on this movie. He was just hilarious and it is quite timely that this movie came out just right after his John Wick 3.
There were some unnecessary scenes which I believed is okay to be removed as it really makes the story too long. There were also some scenes which I also find quite dumb. However, it doesn't really take away your enjoyment that you're gonna get from this movie. I really had a good time watching it and was also laughing my ass off from all of the jokes.
OVERALL
ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE is indeed a recommendable film especially to those who really loves watching rom-com type of movies. I really like that there are some diversity going on around when we're slowly starting to get some Hollywood Rom-Com movies with Asian characters taking as leads. I hope we get to see more of it as long as the story is good and the actors working behind it are having a good chemistry with one another. The movie has some good amount of comedy and also has a love story that is just relatable to anyone.
