Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha gonna do, and you know the rest of the lyrics. Bad Boys For Life is the third sequel to the Bad Boys franchise starring the original bad boys Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. We have two new directors taking up this sequel, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah which the original two sequels were previously directed by Michael Bay. Obviously, the plot will follow 17 years from the Bad Boys 2 movie and the movie explores the aging Miami police as they try to capture a new threat looming around the city.
To tell you honestly, I barely remembered the events that had happened from the second sequel but I was pleasantly surprised that I still enjoyed watching this one. It's just not about the action of the movie and the explosions and shit but it's the chemistry of Will and Martin that really sold the movie for me. We all know Will Smith can sell a movie, he's an automatic blockbuster guy but what I really loved on this sequel was Martin. He's so damn funny and to me, he kind of stole the movie from Will. There are some new characters being introduced here, some new young bloods and fortunately, their characters were able to do something on the story and it didn't felt like they were wasting characters just for the sake of introducing new ones. There are some interesting storylines that they have done on this sequel and possibly impacting future Bad Boys sequels if there will be (I hope). My only concern on the movie is the pacing at the first part of it seems kind of slow. But then once the story starts to progress I didn't feel any slowness of its pacing from then on and it's just progressing continuously. I'd say the story was also good. Some aspect of it really reminded me of Will Smith's other movie called Gemini Man. It's not a direct comparison to that movie but there are aspects from it that really reminded me here on this sequel.
OVERALL
I did enjoy watching this sequel. It's entertaining, action-packed and really funny because of Martin Lawrence's jokes. You don't need to re-watch the first 2 Bad Boys movie just to refresh your memory of it as I was still able to catch-up on this one. I mean, you still can watch it though if you have a copy of those but I just think it really isn't necessary. I really want to see the next sequel of this and how they will do the adjustments of the story that is impacting both the original characters and the new ones. I mean, the new characters were really interesting and I really like to know more of them. They are going in a new direction on this franchise for sure and I'm just really excited to witness it.
