Bird Box is a Netflix post-apocalyptic thriller film based on a novel from the same name which story follows of a woman named "Malorie" played by Sandra Bullock with two (2) children who must survive after the world has been infiltrated by unseen supernatural entities who takes on a form based on the people's worst nightmare that eventually will make them commit suicide. The film is directed by Susanne Bier which stars Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, and a few more names. This can be digitally streamed in Netflix and is available for you to watch.

The plot of this film does share some similarities from the plot of the other horror film "A Quiet Place". Though the latter film involves about an unexplained alien invasion with super hearing senses in which the human characters of that film has to make little to no sounds so the monsters won't be able to hear them. This one involves with an unexplained alien or supernatural invasion in which the human characters has to blindfold themselves so they can't see it because if they see it, it forms into their own worst nightmare and will force them to commit suicide. Sounds really absurd when you think about it but it's the plot of the film. Sooner or later there will be future films that will involve monsters that you shouldn't touch, taste and smell just to complete the "Monster Senses Universe". When I watched the first trailer of the film, I was really intrigued about the plot of it and was really excited to watch this once it is release in their app. The first half of the film does a good job of setting up the plot. There are two (2) timelines happening in this film, one is the current timeline of the film story and the other one is a flashback of five (5) years earlier from the current timeline. I liked how they switched between these timelines as its provide more background about the plot and the condition of our human characters. There are a couple of good performances from the casts especially from Sandra Bullock. The film didn't explore the origin of these unseen creatures of where they came from so that really leaves a big question mark. There are some good amount of thrills coming from the film but it's not that kind of a thrill that will keep you at the edge of your seat. As much as I really want to like this film, I feel that there's a bit of lacking with the entiretity of the film. You don't get to see what is the real form of these unseen creatures so that really lessens the thrills of the film. You just have to be blindfolded and these things won't be able to kill you. You just have to pray that there aren't any maniac roaming around that try to take away your blindfold. The ending was a bit underwhelming as I felt that it doesn't have any big impact on its overall storyline.

OVERALL

BIRD BOX is a film that has some good thrills. I like the morality of the film as it conveys a message that nothing can defeat parent's love amidst this chaotic situation. Sandra Bullock performed so well on this film and I liked the development of her character. My only downside of this film is that we don't really see the real threat. It would have been tenser if we see some sort of a physical form of these unseen creatures. I did enjoy the film but I was really expecting a bit of more it and it's not as good as " A Quiet Place" as I'd hoped it to be.
