The true story of the Taj Hotel terrorist attack in Mumbai. Hotel staff risk their lives to keep everyone safe as people make unthinkable sacrifices to protect themselves and their families.

REVIEW

It is a gruesome and horrifying tale about the real-life terrorist attack which happened on Mumbai, India in 2008. The movie is not for the faint of hearts and if you want to watch this movie then you really are in a suspense and nerve-wrecking ride. The movie starts with this very cryptic shot of the terrorists slowly descending to the mainland of Mumbai while travelling in a boat. All of them has this headphones connected to them where someone is giving them instructions on what to do. It's really a creepy shot because you would know what chaos is about to happen and you're just really there waiting for it to start. The movie is indeed full of intense moments as the terrorists starts with their attack slowly targeting the innocent people on each of their targeted location. So many gunshots were being fired and so many people and even tourists were killed during the attack. Like I said, the attack starts fairly early and if you're not bothered by this kind of a movie then I guess you're fine till the end of it as the running time of it is quite long. I liked some of the cinematic shots of the film and the color palette that was used. The movie at the start of it used this dusk-theme when the attacks were about to happen that resembled about an impending doom and at the end of it the movie they used a very bright-colored theme that resembled about hope and new beginnings. I liked that they used some of the real-life old shots from the real-life attack being accompanied on the movie. It added this documentary vibe to it for something that is a cinematic movie. I also liked the characters that they have portrayed on this movie especially to Dev Patel's character named "Arjun". Dev's performance on this film is subtle yet his performance really impacted a lot. His performance at the end part of it was truly heartbreaking. Every movie which starred Dev Patel, you would certainly expect a very good performance coming out of him because he just that good of an actor. I also liked the other story of the other character named "David" who played by Armie Hammer. He doesn't quite do a lot on this but he still added some of the intense and shocking moments of the movie. The pacing of the movie was fine and the action starts so early so you really get to be engaged from the getgo. My only concern of this movie is somehow they kind-off added some personalities to the terrorists. As much as I want to have a very emotional and deep character movement to the characters, I really don't like that they put additional personalities to the terrorists which are based on real-life that somehow makes me want to sympathize or empathize with them. I'm only okay by it as long as they are documented that these people are really that way but for terrorists such as this without no documentation or proof of their said personalities and they only provided those personalities on the film to somehow spice up the movie, that I'm not okay with it. It doesn't make the film any less since I really love it however it just a personal taste of mine.

OVERALL

Hotel Mumbai is a thrilling and horrifying kind of a movie that you might want to endure for 2 hours of it. Some scenes were really hard to look at and it's a movie that really puts its audiences at the edge of the seat. There are handful of character moments from our main leading characters and there are also some shocking and surprises along the way. The music and scores were good and the pacing of the movie was fast enough to be engaged from its story. I would definitely recommend this movie because it's an intense movie that definitely deserves the viewing. However, it's not for the faint of hearts so be aware of it that as well.
