REVIEW
IT Chapter Two is the sequel to IT which is a remake film based on the popular Stephen King novel's IT. The story follows 27 years later after the losers club seemingly defeated the monstrous IT from the first movie only to be awoken from its slumber and terrorize the Derry neighborhood again by eating innocent little children. The losers club composed of Ben, Billy, Beverly, Richie, Mike, Stanley and Eddie who are now adults must return back to their hometown Derry and end the killing spree of the clown "IT".
IT Chapter Two definitely holds up the heart, the scares and fun from the first movie. I am not such a huge fan when it comes to horror movies but IT is the only horror series that I have been keeping up with. I have never seen such a perfect casting until this movie came out. They really nailed the adult characters which are based on the children actors from the first movie. Their appearances, their personalities and their mannerisms were like a carbon copy from the young characters and it is really quite entertaining to see. The performances were really great especially coming from Bill Hader playing as Adult Richie and James Ransone playing the Adult Eddie. For me, these two characters definitely stole the movie. I was really kind of disappointed about Beverly's arc on this movie. I was hoping that they would explore more of the adult Beverly's story arc especially on how it affects her life after her controversial relationship with her father from the first movie. I mean, if you would cast Jessica Chastain who is perfect for the role, I would have used more of her acting chops because she is an incredible of an actor and you just don't cast her in a kind-off lesser role coming from a big movie. The other losers characters such as Ben, Billy and Mike were also good and their story arc were definitely interesting. I mean, not much with Ben but Billy and Mike were definitely intriguing.
The movie is quite long and from the first half of it, I definitely felt that the pacing of the story quite dragged down. First half of the movie was about reintroducing the familiar characters from the first movie as an adult. It is all about building-up moments that would lead us to the climax of the movie and I just felt that the movie took too long to developed that climax because of some other things that have been included. Well I haven't read the original movie so who knows maybe those parts should really be there but to me it felt unnecessary to have. There is this one thing that I noticed and it is about the screening time of our titular character IT. I felt that his character got trimmed down a bit in terms of the screening time and I never really get to see more playing time from Pennywise the Clown not until the end part of it. The jump scares were still there for sure and I find that this sequel is much funnier than the first. It maybe because of Bill Hader's comedic chops but it is definitely way more fun and has more humor than the original movie.
OVERALL
I enjoyed the movie quite well. It had some good scares, it had some funny moments and has a very rich lore that they could potentially explore if they need to expand a bit more of IT's origins. The casting was really perfect and I really like how they end the story of the losers club individually. Bill Skarsgård's performances as IT definitely deserved a praise for giving a weird, creepy and scary performance as the dancing clown. I would definitely recommend this sequel if you're an avid fan of horror movies especially to those who loved the first movie. It had some moments that were really scary and it is not just a horror movie that is only focused on scary things and such but it also has heartwarming story about overcoming fear and friendship.
