Mile 22 is an action thriller film directed by Peter Berg (director of Lone Survivor, Patriots Day and Deepwater Horizon) and written by Lea Carpenter. The plot follows of a group of elite officers from the CIA task force who must escort an important package 22 miles from the starting point to the extraction point in which these soldiers must face an incoming attack from a corrupt government trying to steal that important package. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Iko Uwais, John Malkovich, Lauren Cohan, and Ronda Rousey.
Mile 22 could be a phenomenal thriller film if its story doesn't seem to confuse you. While the action sequences and the chase films were really entertaining to watch, I never really understood the story behind this film. The first half of the film was doing great. I was still on track with it while they slowly setting up this plot of escorting an important package or a person 22 miles to the extraction point (hence the title). Things went really well for me as I was being entertained by all the action sequences and all the gunfights and the fight scenes coming from Iko Uwais (The Raid). These were all choreographed really well and one of the entertaining points of this film. However, there are certain plot points and decision making coming from these characters that don't really make sense. There is this government trying to get the package for no reason at all, only that they somehow portray Iko Uwais character as the traitor of its country and needs to be taken from the US Embassy (Mark Wahlberg's team). There are so many 3rd parties involved that it's slowly becoming so confusing to me. The revelation of the plot twist at the end was more like of a "What?" rather than a "What the fuck!" moment. The story was just all over the place without a proper explanation as to what had happened. The transitioning of some scenes were really awkward and out of place especially with them putting Mark Wahlberg's character narrating the whole story which really gives you an idea that his character survived at the end. They could have given me that sigh of relief at least knowing that his character would survive at the end. The positive side of it is that Iko Uwais really saved this film of being an "O-HSHIT" due to his energetic, bone-cracking and entertaining fight scenes. His performance playing a secretive nature that is calm while at the same time showing some badassery from his punching and kicking scenes was really the highlight of the film.

OVERALL
MILE 22 would have been a great thriller film if the story would have been much clearer. Its story is all over the place and some moments or decision makings from the film didn't really make any sense. There are however entertaining performances coming from "The Raid" star that really made this film worth to watch. However, there's nothing much to get from this film rather than being confused at the end.
