MOVIE PLOT

Based from the novel of the same name, the plot follows of man in France after waking up discovering that the city has been invaded full of "ZOMBIES". REVIEW

In this day and age, we've seen different iterations involved with Zombies and we have quite seen a few films and even in the TV-series that are already popular with the audiences. The primary example would be the AMC's The Walking Dead. The movie is still a Zombie film however, before you walk-in into watching this please note that this is a different kind of a zombie flick that you're gonna get. Unlike your typical Zombie-movie, this film is kind-off like a Existential Film that talks about human existence living in a world full of Zombies. So if you're expecting to watch a Zombie movie with full of actions, then you're not gonna like this movie at all.

I watched the film expecting that this is going to be a faced-pace movie. When I read the plot and when I read the word Zombies, that interests me to watch the film. I mean, we're talking about Zombies, so for sure we're going to get some action from it right? Well, I guess my biggest disappoint coming from this film is that the pacing of the film is really slow. It's so dragging and I was really bored from watching it. Like I said on my disclaimer above, if you're gonna watch this film this is not that type of a Zombie-action movie that is filled with action at all. Added to the slowness of the film, its setting sets only on this one location. So through-out the movie, we only see our protagonist doing his daily routine that will eventually bored you out and we didn't get to know more from the outside world which was really a disappointing part for me. However, in terms of its story. There is more to it than meets the eye. It's a movie filled with deeper meanings that talks about human existence. There's only one character and we see him slowly transitioning into something along the movie. It also talks about the human capacity in coping loneliness since he is seemingly the only survivor amongst these wave of zombies. The performance of Anders was really great and he also added some craziness to his character. I mean, if you're the only guy living in a world without no one to talk to, you would definitely be crazy.

OVERALL

In terms of entertainment value, I didn't feel any of that at the first hour of the film. For a zombie movie, at least that's what I was hoping to get. The first hour was really slow and it really made the movie boring for me. However, when you go through the whole film, you discover that its story is really deep. It talks about more about human condition amidst the apocalypse. I would enjoyed it more if I didn't have the expectation of seeing a Zombie movie that is quite fast-paced and also deals with some kind of action.
