Pacific Rim Uprising is a sequel of Pacific Rim directed and created by Guillermo Del Torro who gave us plenty of monsters & creatures from his different works (Shape of Water, Hellboy, Pan Labyrinth). This time, Guillermo introduced to us with giant monsters from other dimensions called "Kaiju" and big-ass Gundam-like Robots called "Jaegers". It was a surprise hit after the original movie released and they're now expanding that universe by releasing a sequel to it which I am going to talk about. It stars John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, the son of the famous pilot Jaeger from the original film Stacker Pentecost played by Idris Elba. There are a lot of fresh faces in this sequel and also some original characters returns with surprising twists and turns into their character's arc. And of course, Pacific Rim Uprising wouldn't be a Pacific Rim sequel without some Jaegers and Kaijus. It's hard to pull off a good sequel and maintain its success from its original. There are lots of factors to contribute to that which are the characters, story, and scripts. There were gaps in the first half of the film. The story was all over the place. It was messy and all over the place that it hardly contributed to the entire main plot of the film. Some new characters were also forgettable. I liked John Boyega's character and how amazing he his becoming a household name but the other new ones were just there, boring and one-dimensional without any proper character growth. A sort of a fill-in of the movie. The pacing of the movie was a problem that the main plot of its entire film took too long to develop. However, it was not an entirely bad sequel to Pacific Rim. The second half of the film holds the most and interesting part that even though the Kaijus took long to appeared but once they were on screen it was a feast on the eyes. The big-ass Jaegers battling a very big-ass Kaiju definitely was an icing on the cake.

OVERALL
PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING has nothing special much about it when it comes to its story. The pacing of the story and characters were sub-par with some good amounts of Kaijus & Jaegers battle scenes. I hope that it would not go to the "Transformers" route where its coming sequels became less of a quality. Its entire universe is rich with so many interesting stories to make. This sequel entertained me so well and I can't wait for what the third entry is going to offer me.
