SPIDER-MAN: Far From Home is the newest MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) film right after the events of AVENGERS: Endgame. The movie focuses mainly on the impact to Peter Parker’s character after his friend/mentor Tony Stark/Ironman gave up his life in undoing the snap to bring back the people who got dusted from existence by Thanos during Infinity War. The movie shows some ramifications of the snap in which all of the people who got dusted and brought back to life remains the same age after those 5 years while those people who are not affected by the snap got aged-up. I can’t talk much about the plot to avoid spoilers but I will just say what I felt towards about the movie, about some of the new characters like Mysterio and probably discuss about the possible future heading into MCU. This sequel if compared to Homecoming is a lot bigger in terms of its storyline. The movie is still a coming-of-age type of a film in which it involves around Peter Parker struggles between having superpowers and his responsibility as a superhero against wanting to have a normal life as a high-school student. I really like the direction that they have come-up with Peter Parker which the older Spiderman movies (Raimi’s Spiderman & The Amazing Spiderman movies) have not yet touched or played with. Tom Holland’s performance as Peter really solidifies him that he is indeed (for my taste) the best Spiderman that I have seen out of all the Spiderman live-action movies. His awkwardness, especially towards MJ, was really funny as hell and so innocent to look at. Him and Zendaya (MJ) really looked perfectly good together just because they have this amazing chemistry with one another. Zendaya does a whole lot more into this film for her character and she’s not just your typical love interest of Peter Parker. She had more things to do in this film compared to Homecoming and she really was amazing at that. I really like the aspect of Peter Parker struggling in choosing which live that he wants to have. At the same time, I was really moved by some of those scenes when Peter cannot do the things that he really wants as a normal high school kid when he got some superpowers and some big responsibility to do. They executed that part really well which added more characterization to Peter Parker. There is also this specific scene that almost got me teary-eyed that involves around Peter and Tony Stark which added some emotions of the film apart from being a funny one.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s casting coming into the film was surprising just because he is that amazing of an actor and would play some major role into the MCU. At the same time, I was kind of disappointed that the character he’s going to play won’t justify how good of an actor he is. However, after watching the film, I will say that Jake was amazingly good on this especially on how he portrayed Mysterio and how the writers of the film constructed Mysterio’s background. His chemistry towards Tom Holland is just as good as with Zendaya. I would even say that all of them have good chemistry with one another and you could really tell how good their chemistry is just by basing on their performances. Mysterio’s costume is just so dope and so bad-ass that I kind of want to have one. His superpowers and the visual effects coming from it was just so good to look at and it's one of the best uses of CGI effects. There was a scene in which Mysterio fully uses his superpowers
and it's just so mind-blowing with full of surprises and it's just one of the best actions scenes out there. Imagine combining Doctor Strange and Ironman into one character and you would get Mysterio out of that. He’s just so good of a character and they have done justice to it. In terms of its storyline for the upcoming phases of the MCU, I will just say this that you would be truly excited of what’s about to come after watching the film along with its two post-credits. It’s wild, it's breath-taking and there's some shocking factors to it as well that would really make you excited. You would think that the MCU hype would go down after the events of AVENGERS: Endgame? NOPE. They’re only just starting and the MCU hype train is far from over.
My only concern of the film is that some of the prominent characters from Homecoming didn't really shine coming into the sequel. It is understandable since we get to know more of the other characters especially towards MJ, Mysterio and even from Happy Hogan.
OVERALL
SPIDER-MAN: Far From Home is a very enjoyable film with funny sequences, well written characters and amazing action scenes accompanied with visually striking CGI effects. I had some good laughs from some of its jokes and there are even heavy emotional moments coming from Tom Holland's performance. I really like the story and I really like the direction that they are heading into. There are some surprises from the film that you don't want to miss. It is important to note that YOU HAVE TO REMAIN AT YOUR SEATS even after the credits roll. There are two POST-CREDITS that are so important for you to watch that would definitely makes you excited about the future of MCU. Of course, if you've seen 22 MCU films, you would already know about the post-credits since it's basically the Marvel's signature move. I definitely highly recommend this one. Also, since this movie ends the Phase 3 of MCU. I will be posting a new post to rank all of the MCU movies from Phase 1 to Phase 3 so better watch-out for it.
