The House With a Clock In Its Wall (A very very long title) is a children-fantasy-horror movie based from a novel of the same name and stars Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Owen Vaccaro, and Kyle MacLachlan and is directed by Eli Roth, most known for his other horror movies. It follows a story of an orphaned boy who sent to live with his uncle after his parent's death and soon to discover that there is something hidden beyond the wall of his uncle's house, not just some creepy and mysterious objects but also a powerful clock that could end the world. There are few comedy actors out there that I really idolized and one of them is Jack Black. It's really nice to see the resurgence of him in Hollywood and he has been part of other recent good movies as well. I thought it was weird seeing the pairing of Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. I mean, Jack Black who is famously known for his comedic antics and Cate Blachett, a respected Oscar-Winner actor known for her serious and dramatic roles. I never thought that this pairing would really work but it did. It was nice seeing the two of them complements each other well. However, I quite didn't like the child lead. Nothing against him cause he seems to be a really talented child, but I just don't like the way he performs and sometimes I just find him annoying. This movie is intended for kids as this was based from a children's book. Some visuals and scenes were creepy but not to the point that haunt you at your dreams. It has a generic storyline about good versus evil and nothing really stood out to me that I can say something unique about it.

OVERALL

THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALL has some parts that I enjoyed. I liked the chemistry between Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. For a fantasy movie, it has some good visual effects as well. The tone of the movie is somewhat dark and has some creepy vibes but it is still a children's movie. Kind of like Goosebumps which Jack Black also starred in. I am not totally sold about the storyline. I just find it generic and nothing memorable. It's still a good movie for you and your kids to hang out with but it's certainly not that kind of a movie that I would love.
