The Meg is a science-fiction horror film based from a book titled "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror" which follows a group of scientists or oceanographers who must stop and kill a prehistoric shark called Megalodon. It stars Jason Statham as the lead of the film and is directed by Jon Turteltaub. Having Jason Statham in a movie is interesting. Having a big ass prehistoric shark is even more interesting. Movies like Jaws or the Deep Blue Sea really scared me back then to the point that every time I went to a beach I would think that a shark would be roaming around and eat my freaking feet. Jaws at that time was so influential and really set the bar high to any monsters type of a movie. Maybe the Meg didn't have that but what the Meg can offer is that it has a little bit suspense with humor mixed to it. It's not a great movie because the first half of it felt kind of a drag. It's slow and it's all about this exploration and explaining the science behind it. I just couldn't wait to see the Meg because it is the reason why I wanted to see this movie in the first place. The characters are kinda boring to be honest and I felt their deaths didn't impact a lot to me. They're pretty much forgettable and all I could just see anchoring this movie was Statham. The story is something that I've already seen before from previous monster movies. That idea of human interrupts mother nature and mother nature returns back to them with vengeance that type of a thing. It's pretty common around monster movies but at least they could have added something unique or something different on the storyline. It's not a bad movie as well because there were actually some decent scenes which were intense and funny. The CGI of the shark was also good. It's on a par with the effects done from the Jurassic World movies and given by its budget, I can assume that most of the budget went to making the prehistoric shark. I mean, if the shark wouldn't even that good looking, I would have rated this movie so low.

OVERALL
THE MEG is not a good movie neither a bad one. I actually had a good time watching this movie. The good thing about this was, I already set my expectations low for this movie and it was a surprise that this movie did deliver to my taste. If it was the other way around then that would have suck and left a bad evening to me. Would I recommend this movie to you? Sure, go watch if you're free and you could invite some of your friends as well. But also, I would say that it's okay to have a pass on this movie and just wait on the digital release on it.
