Time Freak is a romantic drama film written and directed by Andrew Bowler and stars Asa Butterfield, Sophie Turner, and Skyler Gisondo. The story follows of a genius boy named Stillman (Asa Butterfield) who invented a time machine after his break-up with his girlfriend Debbie (Sophie Turner). He and with the help of his best friend Evan (Skyler Gisondo) uses the time machine to travel back in time to correct all the mistakes that he had made to hopefully stop the break-up from happening.

What made this film so different from all of the other films that I have seen dealing with time travel plotline? This film has nothing to be a standout from all of those films and pretty much involves the same storyline all over again. At first, I was really intrigued by the film. The first half was okay and I was really enjoying the film because there was some humor in it. Skyler Gisondo playing as Evan made this film enjoyable to watch because of his comedic character that his playing. I enjoyed a lot of Evan's plotline more so than the leading man Stilllman's plotline. Through the second half of the film, this is where the film went really downhill for me. The storyline became messy and the execution was just bad and the ending of it didn't make any sense. I didn't give a shit about Stillman and Debbie love story actually. I was more rooting for them to explore more of Evan's arc. That portion of the film was really the funniest and enjoyable moment from the film and had they gotten through that storyline instead of the uncharismatic love story between Stillman and Debbie, this film would have been different and would have been good. No offense to Asa Butterfield and Sophie Turner fans club out there but with them together on screen didn't scream any chemistry at all. It was just awkward and didn't help this film to be more romantic.

OVERALL

TIME FREAK is your below average film that has a bad and questionable ending, messy execution, un-charismatic characters (except for Evan) and forgetful storyline. The first half of the film was okay but then it went really bad in the second half of it. I was more entertained to Evan's storyline more so with the love story between Stillman and Debbie. What's keeping me to rate this film at the bottom of my rating was because I still enjoyed the film because of the best friend's funny arc.
