Tomb Raider is an action-adventure film based on the “Tomb Raider” game series. It served as a reboot to the old Tomb Raider film which starred Angelina Jolie and this time we have Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander who plays the titular role. This version of Tomb Raider is gritty, serious and more grounded in reality than the previous one. This version is even better from the old series for these particular reasons. One, we have a multi-layered Lara Croft who charismatically played by Alicia portraying her as strong, independent woman which Lara Croft is famously known for but also a vulnerable human being which also added her character depth. Second, this version is grounded in reality. It’s easy to relate a character that is more grounded in reality. Lara is a mere human being like us and it’s easy to relate to her because she can be hurt and she is vulnerable like us. The settings and mood of the film closely resemble the 2013 Tomb Raider game which I highly suggest you play that one. It’s about survival and finding the truth about his father work/mission that ultimately led to Lara Croft’s life-changing moment. Although it’s a much better film from the previous Tomb Raider, the second hour of the film suffered from a dull moment progressing its generic storyline. That storyline of a mysterious organization trying to take over the world formula is already overused and too cliché for my taste. There was also a point from the film that felt so boring and unnecessary to have. Still, there were major jaw-dropping scenes that will surely take you at the edge of your seat and I’d like to point out that waterfall scene which was truly an intense moment from the film.

OVERALL
TOMB RAIDER has its moments mixed with thrills, excitement, intensity, and fun. It suffered from pacing issue progressing its storyline but you would still be able to get something from the movie that is worth your time. I even enjoyed this film pretty much rather than the previous versions and I’m still going to follow if ever a sequel is going to be greenlit.
