Venom is a comic-superhero movie based on a marvel comics of the same name. This movie features Tom Hardy playing as Eddie Brock, a daily reporter from a known media company goes undercover to unravel the dark secrets of a very known high-profile company "Life Foundation". The story follows right after the Life Foundation company retrieves an alien species called "Symbiote" from another planet that they discovered during one of their space explorations and one of these alien species goes to fuse with Eddie Brock to help him take down the company.

Let's talk about the bad side of this movie. The movie certainly suffered from the first half of its running time. First off, laying the groundwork of its story. I think it wasn't quite well established and was just really a mess. There were multiple plotlines that they were trying to establish and when they try to connect these plotlines, it ended up as a disorganized and chaotic approach. This is the first time we get to see a Venom-centric movie, at least from a normal audience perspective who isn't quite familiar about the character Venom nor its comics, they could have done some clean-up about the storyline and just focused on the build-up for the Venom character storyline. Second, the villain of this movie was just forgettable. Having a good villain helps in elevating the mood and tone of the movie. Look at Joker from the Dark Knight, look at Thanos and Loki from the First Avenger movie. They were good villains written properly elevating a darker tone of the movie and impose a serious threat to our heroes. I didn't feel any of that from the character Carlton Drake played by Riz Ahmed. However, this movie isn't that bad as what everybody thinks. Let's talk about the good side of the movie. The highlight of this movie was Tom Hardy's character Eddie. Things quickly picked-up right after the symbiote fused with Eddie. I just love the dynamic between the two characters Eddie and Venom and their dialogues back and forth was just funny as hell. They were so great seeing on-screen and every time the two of them comes back from the screentime, it just leaves me with a huge smile on my face. The witty and hungry attitude from Venom was just a perfect match to the noble and innocent Eddie Brock.

OVERALL

VENOM isn't that bad and isn't that really good as well. There were issues that I found from the first half of its running time and by the time we get to see Venom and Eddie together, this was the one holding up this sinking boat. I think this movie wouldn't really be benefited enough if this was rated as a "R-Rating". I think the PG rating was just justifiable. Hoping its sequel gets the R-Rating treatment. I want to see some real carnage from it with Venom biting off some heads or arms from the bad guys.
