Hurricane Heist is a heist action disaster film directed by Rob Cohen and stars Toby Kebbell, Maggie Grace, Ryan Kwanten, and Ralph Ineson. The plot of the film follows a group of thieves who planned a heist to rob a local bank and uses the CAT-5 hurricane to cover up their tracks. The plot of this film may seem a bit farfetched but we've had movies that deal with tornadoes with sharks before. The movie did provide a little bit of background on how hurricanes work but other than that, all the things that happened on this film were too much to take. I've been saying these for my past reviews but being a heist film really amps my level of interest of a certain film. Is it a good heist film though? No, it is not. The movie heavily focuses on the disaster part of it and not much with the heist part of it. It is such a waste for an idea of something like this that is so original and could have been one of those films that defy genre. The film didn't quite focus on the planning of the heist part and to me, it feels like those segments from the film where it shows the execution of the plan were put into rush just so they could go ahead showing their cheap hurricane visual effects. Speaking of the visual effects, the effects kind of feel a bit dated and most of the scenes were really dark. They could have invested more to the visual effects of it since they are selling this movie as a disaster film. Not trying to take anything away from the visual effects department but they could have done better than that. The characters were fine and some of them were a bit cheesy. It reminded you of some those characters from 90’s action movies back then where the protagonists only has one character arc which is being the hero of the film.

OVERALL
HURRICANE HEIST is your typical disaster film that plays too much to the disaster side without having a real good story on it. The heist part wasn’t any that good and the visual effects really felt cheap and bland. The story doesn’t have any impact and the execution of the film didn’t help at all. If you really want to watch a disaster film where everything is wreaking havoc and chaos, then the film fits on your list but don’t expect too much from it because it really feels like watching a B-type movie with bad visual effects and a mediocre storyline.
