THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US (O-RVZ MOVIE REVIEW)

It's a romance-disaster film about 2 strangers that were stranded on the harsh-snowy environment of the mountains. It's a story about survival of Alex and Ben who are played by Kate Winslet and Idris Elba playing the journalist and surgeon respectively. The pairing of Kate and Idris with their engaging performances were certainly the selling point of the movie but their love story really overshadows the survival story of them. They should have left out the romantic side of it and instead focuses on their hardship and struggles that finds their way trying to survive the very harsh environment. Don’t get me wrong, there are other romance-disaster films that are truly great like the likes of Titanic but in this film I think the issue is more of a balance between being a disaster film and being a romantic film.

OVERALL

THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US is a film that is hard to distinguish between being a romantic or a disaster film. I was sold by the first half of the film but when the second half of the film focused too much on the romantic side of it, this is where it made the film a no for me. They could have just go through the survival story and I wouldn't even mind if the romantic side of it wasn't part of the whole film.
