22 July is a drama thriller film produced and released by Netflix which is directed by Paul Greengrass (who directed the three original Bourne Legacy series) in which the story is centered around the real-life event of the 77 people killed during the 2 sequential attacks of a bomb explosion in the government office and the shooting of students at a summer camp held in Mt. Utøya which all happened at the 22nd of July, 2011 in Norway. These attacks were done by a lone terrorist named Anders Behring Breivik. This movie features an all Norwegian cast.

This movie is seriously hard to watch. It's heartbreaking and scary of seeing those innocent people get killed by a deranged man whose philosophy is just maniacal. These attacks quickly happened during the first few minutes of the movie and it was just dark and sad. It expanded a bit more with the aftermath of the attacks and we get to know more of the real-life serial killer Anders Behring Breivik (Anders Danielsen Lie). He does effectively play the guy with a boastful attitude and that just makes me so mad about him. The movie expounded a bit more on the story of the survivor during the aftermath which provided a more dramatic feeling to it. It was a traumatic experienced for them and it's hard seeing these survived characters lingers on the state of being scared and having all these types trauma from the attacks. The movie really hits you hard emotionally and physically because you can literally feel the pain of these families which were affected. The positive side of this movie is that the survivors really did go through some healing and recovery stages and it was just a delight seeing them do that. Even though that the movie was dark and traumatic, somehow it sheds a bit of a light knowing that we cannot be easily defeated. I liked the characters in the movie. Each one of them plays a significant role and we get to see their own stories of how the events impacted them personally.

OVERALL

22 JULY is a good movie not to be enjoyed but to feel with. It is one of the saddest moment in the history of mankind. So many innocent lives have been taken and it's indeed an eye-opener and a scary thought that any of us could be involved. Either way, this movie was really made well paired with good emotional performances around the casts. It feels like a personal movie to me and I just love how this movie really hits me hard emotionally. It's one of those movies that has a sad yet beautiful story and delivered a very important message of not be defeated easily by these acts of terrorism. Although some parts of the movie might be fictional and were just written to add something with the story, however, the peopled who got killed during the massacre were real and so many families were affected to it just makes the movie so damn hard to watch.
