American Animals is a crime heist-thriller-drama film directed by Bart Layton and stars Evan Peters (Quicksilver from X-Men Days of Future Past), Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner and Jared Abrahamson. It's about a group of college students who planned a heist and steal some very rare and expensive collection of books from a library of Transylvania University in Kentucky. It's a true story film depicting the events before and after the planned robbery. This movie did a very interesting take about retelling a true event in a movie. They managed to gather all the real-life people involved from the robbery, interviewed each of them telling the stories of the robbery and at the same actors performing them while they narrate the story. It's a very unique and genuine way of filmmaking and I really really loved how they balanced this two medium of storytelling. The editing of this movie was also good. It's fast and smartly edited transitioning between the real-life culprits and the actors playing them. It's like watching a documentary segment but in a feature movie. The characters were the outstanding part as well and Evan Peters, you gotta give it to him. He's a very talented charismatic guy that truly knows how to balance between being comedic and being serious. He really has that gravitas and the character he plays really fits him so well. The story of this movie also gives a very important lesson in life. Something like there is no shortcut in life, you gotta earn it and you gotta work it. These guys depicted in this film, they sure didn't think of it through but in the end, it all worked out for each of one of them.

OVERALL
AMERICAN ANIMALS has a genuine way of telling a story. Using real-life people from the said event along with actors, it's just something that I have never seen from any movie which is based on a true story. It's mostly by the end that they will reveal those people that they are depicting from the film but no, it feels as if those people were also part of the film. Not just cameo but has a significant part of it. I would want to see other filmmakers do this kind of method but not totally the same as what was being done from this film. It's a challenge for them sure, but it would really be a feast on the eye if they managed to do it in a unique kind of way. This movie was great, fun, intense and exciting to watch. I had a great time watching this movie and for sure it was one of those movies that I really appreciated on how creative and artistic it is.
