Aquaman is a superhero film based on one of the DC comics properties that also joins with previous DC films as the sixth film of the entire DC Extended Universe. The film is based on a story of our titular character Arthur "Aquaman" Curry right after the events of the Justice League film and follows on an adventure of him fighting his place as the rightful ruler of Atlantis and as the savior of the surface land whom is half-brother King Orm (Oceanmaster) tries to unite the seven underwater kingdoms to lead a war against the surface dwellers (humans). This film is directed by James Wan (director of Saw, Furious 7 and the Conjuring Franchise) and Jason Momoa returning playing the character for the second time right after his Justice League debut. It also stars Amber Heard (Mera), Willem Dafoe (Vulko), Nicole Kidman (Atlanta), Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) and Patrick Wilson (Orm/Oceanmaster).

I wasn't even so sure if I was interested enough to see more of these DCEU future films right after watching the disappointed and underwhelming Justice League film. Not even sure why these Warner Bros honchos agreed to hastily release a Justice League film without properly building up these central characters through its solo films which admittedly was one of the many reasons why Justice League really sunk at the bottom of the deep ocean. If you're going to ask me now if my interest has gotten completely lost after watching the film, well I must say that Aquaman helped in regaining that interest and slowly helped in resurfacing this sinking ship back to its route. I must say that of all the six (6) DC films that have been released, this is by far the brightest and the most colorful DC film that I have watched. It's a refreshing feeling to see a DC film that's not dark and gritty in terms of its color palette and Aquaman really feels like a film that you would thoroughly enjoy not only with its colorful visual spectacles but also with its humor and its fun adventure of our main characters had. Jason Momoa's Aquaman really flourished his character here. Had they released this solo film first before the Justice League one, the part with the Atlantis storyline from the Justice League wouldn't felt weird and forced. I really like the action sequences done on this film and the action choreography that they have done while they were underwater was something unique and at the same time awesome to watch. The story is quite simple and something that I have already seen before. Its story basically the same from the first Thor film but done underwater accompanied with sea animals and hideous gigantic sea monsters. Well, it didn't really matter to me seeing the same storyline from other films because it was still effective and with all the amazing stuff that they have added, it was really that entertaining. The end part of it was really epic and there were parts of the film that has some horror elements to it which is a surprise. The film really felt like an adventure film. As these two (2) main characters move from one location to another trying to retrieve this legendary trident, it successfully brings its audiences to that journey and manages to surprise us along the way.

OVERALL
AQUAMAN is a good film that you will surely enjoy watching. Though it still feels like a generic superhero film with a generic plotline that you may have seen from previous superhero films, James Wan and his crew did an amazing job of keeping this film enjoyable and fun to watch. The visual effects were really amazing and it was just epic, much more epic than the Justice League film. Hopefully that this would keep up to the other future DC films that will be released and I'm really now excited what Shazam has to offer to. Though Wonder Woman was critically praised, Aquaman might be my favorite DCEU film out all of them.
