Beautiful Boy is a biographical drama film and is based on the memoirs from "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction" written by David Sheff, the father of a drug addict son. The film is directed by Felix van Groeningen and stars Timothée Chalamet as Nicholas "Nic" Sheff, a college boy who has succumbed to the addiction of drugs and struggling to be free from it and Steve Carell as David Sheff, the grieving and hopeful father of Nic Sheff. The movie focuses on the strained relationship between the father and son
A sad and painful story about a drug addict boy who's trying so hard to free himself from addiction and a loving and touching story about a father who's trying his best to help his son to be sober. It has a beautiful story that is timely and quite relevant at our day and age. Addiction is a disease and this movie somehow tells the audiences that in order to treat drug addiction from a certain family member, you can pour them with your full support and love of helping them to free from addiction but it's not going to be enough unless the addict themselves will put their dedication and motivation to free themselves. Timothée Chalamet was indeed so amazing with his powerful performance playing as the drug addict. He effectively shows you that he is in despair with the current complication situation he has been in with all the drugs and alcohols involve. He shows so many emotions from this movie and you can really feel for him. He has become as a household name and this movie really shows you that he is a force to be reckoned with in terms of acting. Playing the opposite end, Steve Carell playing as the father was just so hard to watch on the screen. His eyes, his facial expression, from there you could tell so much of what is going on around his character and you could really tell that this guy suffers so much as much as his son. His performance of this film was so pure and so heartwarming. You can totally see in his eyes his deep emotion of how he is so affected by the growing addiction of his son and how he has been so helpless that he just couldn't do anything in order to fix him. The movie really feels like a personal movie and it's just a touching and inspiring story between a hopeful father and an addicted son. I liked the editing of this movie and I like the color palette used on the film. Though, there are scenes that gets so confusing sometimes due to some flashbacks but it really didn't give any issue to me or whatsoever through-out the whole movie.

OVERALL
BEAUTIFUL BOY is a beautiful (no pun intended) film with a sad and touching story paired with powerful performances from Timothée and Steve. I like movies like this that just tells an individual story with particularly this one dealing with a very timely and relevant subject matter about addiction. The movie is indeed beautiful and I would totally recommend this to anyone who loves watching movies that deals with stories that are close to personal.
