Galveston is a drama thriller film directed by Mélanie Laurent which story is based on a novel of the same name written by Nic Pizzolatto. The film is cast with Ben Foster and Elle Fanning which plot follows of a hired-gun man diagnosed with a lung cancer named Roy (Ben Foster) who saved a kidnapped girl named Rocky (Elle Fanning) during one operation set up by his Boss and goes off to Galveston to seek for a sanctuary.
It's a dark gritty film accompanied by strong performances from both casts. This is that type of film that I'd prefer to watch alone. Not everyone will appreciate this film because you might find it boring during your viewing on it but I absolutely loved it. I love the story between these two (2) characters. It's a compelling well-thought-out story with a very tragic ending. Both of them shares a very horrible and traumatic past that they're trying to avoid. Roy is an alcoholic diagnosed with lung cancer and was almost killed by his Boss. Rocky, on the other hand, is a 19-y.o girl who got scammed and kidnapped to work as an escort girl with a very abusive step-father. Both of these characters have their own individual flaws and they were beautifully portrayed by these actors involved. Just the amazing performances alone by both Ben Foster and Elle Fanning are one of the outstanding parts of the film. It's really an emotional film with so many human emotions involved with it. I also like the tone combination of this film. It's quite difficult to balance two different genres of being a thriller and a drama both at the same time. I would say that for me, this feels more like a drama but there are parts that were really intense and thrilling especially at the nearer end part of it. The story is even a heartbreaking one. Althroughout the film, I thought of that this would be the certain direction that the film would go through given all the information and foreshadowing that they have shown us from these both characters and yet I was wrong. It's a sad plot twist at the end of it but I like that they managed to surprise me out of it.

OVERALL
GALVESTON is a great drama film that provides a good amount of story, a good amount of thrills and a good amount of drama. I liked the characters in this film. The actors involved did a very good job of portraying these human-flawed characters and are at the same time relatable. It's a film with a very heartbreaking ending. It is full of emotions and was just a beautiful one to watch. I will surely recommend you to watch this if you're into films with more into the story and characters rather than seeing some eye-catchy and big budget visual graphics spectacle. There are moments from the film which you might feel stale, dry or slow due to the nature of the film but once you go through with it and see it as a whole, you would surely enjoy what the film is all about.
