It's a comedy-slasher film directed by Christopher B. Landon, written by Scott Lobdell and stars Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard. The movie follows a college girl named "Tree" played by Jessica who got stuck in a time loop only to discover that she has to relive the day over and over again only to be killed by a mysterious serial killer. This plot shares similarities from the 1993 classic comedy movie "Groundhog Day" starred Bill Murray who also got stuck in a time loop repeatedly living the same day over and over again. This time, it is mixed with a slasher-horror genre vibe. Thanks to the OG, Groundhog Day, we've been having these kinds of storyplot lines from a movie in which a character has to relive the same day. We got the one from Tom Cruise titled "Edge of Tomorrow" an underrated film that I liked. Last year's "Before I Fall" which was an okay film but I never truly liked it. And this one Happy Death Day, combining two genres (comedy and horror) which is seriously hard to pull off. I don't have any issues of retreading storyline from previous works because sometimes some of the greats came from other works anyway so as long as the story is properly written and conveyed in a movie. This movie took me by surprise. It's a fun and engaging movie that will truly hook the audience and make you wanna guest of who is this mysterious serial killer that keeps popping to kill her. There were so many questions keep circling around my head and this movie really did a great job of not showing it so obviously from us and at the end it was still a shocking moment when they reveal the serial killer. This movie was smart and subtlely giving clues or hints of who was the true killer. It's also a very funny movie. Jessica Rothe was just letting it all out. Her performance was just so fun and energetic that really keeps the energy of the film even up to some of the dull moments. Her face structure kinda reminds me of a mini "Blake Lively". Her character is very interesting and she has a good character development. The movie contains some deep life lessons as well. The ending of the movie was just a pure comedy moment which I absolutely loved. I really didn't expect that which kinda made me smile when the credits started to roll.

OVERALL

HAPPY DEATH DAY is a good horror movie. I enjoyed speculating of who was the killer of it. Although my speculation didn't quite match the revelation from the movie, it was still a shocking moment for me. It's a fun and sometimes an intense one and not your typical slasher film that has some gore and disgusting scenes. I still had some questions in which this movie didn't answer but based from a reliable sources that a sequel is happening focusing why Tree got stuck in a time loop in the first place. I hoped it doesn't suck and still relives the same fun and energy that this movie had. This movie was indeed a surprising hit.
