Instant Family is a comedy-drama film that tells a story of the two parents Pete and Ellie Wagner who signed-up for a foster program and adopt three young children. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg (Pete) and Rose Byrne (Ellie) playing as the parents and also stars Isabela Moner (Lizzy Viara), Gustavo Quiroz (Juan Viara), and Julianna Gamiz (Lita Viara) as the three children who got adopted. The movie is directed by Sean Anders who also directed other Mark Wahlberg starring movies such as the two Daddy’s Home films. The movie begins with Ellie and Pete who are contemplating whether they should have a kid or not and after being taunted by some of their relatives, the two of them considered the option to adopt children. After they have chosen these three children and were started living on the same roof, this is where the interesting bits starting to come up. The movie is funny. Some of the jokes really worked on me and some of the dialogues were quite funny. The main characters played by Mark and rose really elevated the spirit of the movie. I really liked their character development as parents, especially Mark’s character. These characters were really relatable. While the movie is funny, it’s also a very dramatic and emotional movie which really focuses on the hardship and loving relationship between a parent and the children. These children were really annoying but it’s already a given fact that children are just indeed annoying (we should know, because we’ve all been there) however, it was an effective tool to be used on the story that no matter how hard, annoying and messed-up these kids were, these parents still really stick with them. Rose Byrne’s performance was really good on this one. She played a strong-willed character and even though she is that strong, she sometimes easily gets to her emotion. On the other hand, Mark Wahlberg’s character was a surprising one. I almost forgot that he was an Oscar-nominated actor at one point of his career. It’s just that some of his recent films were really just shitty and I almost forgot how good of an actor he is. Hopefully, he can stay on this route and he can just slowly remove himself from shitty comedy films. The movie is really great. It has a very inspiring and moving story about family. It’s another way of telling that all families come in different sizes and forms and still can be called a complete family. I really like the tone of this film. It’s balanced with humor and drama. The actors were great and the pacing of the film continually tells the story without feeling any slowness to it.
