Mandy is an action-horror film written and directed by Panos Cosmatos. It is a revenge film circling around a character named "Red Miller" played by Nicolas Cage where her girlfriend "Mandy Bloom" played by Andrea Riseborough who got killed by a group of Cult. He then tracks those people behind the cult and tries to have his revenge over the death of his girlfriend.

The movie starts off showing a normal couple living in an unknown location from the Shadowy Mountains of California. Things seem to be normal for a while until they met a group of hippie cult with their deranged beliefs and tries to kidnap the girl. There are a couple of scenes which were really artistic. The heavy uses of colors and the stylized moving pictures that seems to be a painting in motion. It's a really unique way of storytelling which I like. As usual, the performance of Nicolas Cage was over the top at times but that really fits well considering the situation his character has been involved. It is a very gore and sadistic movie involving nudity, drugs, and violence. This movie is really unique which features heavily with the haunting scores, weird transitions between scenes and some dream sequences which was in animated. The action starts off late in this movie so you really have to be patient for it but when it does start, it's bloody, it's funny and a wild adventure of Nicolas Cage hunting them down one by one. His performance really sold this movie to me because of how he sometimes oversells some drama scenes but it was justifiable of how he is hurt about his girlfriend's death.

OVERALL

MANDY is a trippy, dark and violent movie. It's also one of the artistic movies that I have seen and what I mean by artistic, it means of how this movie presented in a different stylized way. It is heavily used with some loud and haunting scores and some very graphic and violent scenes accompanied with good over the top performances of Nicolas Cage. It may not be for everyone's taste but I did thoroughly enjoy the most part of it.
