The Sisters Brothers is a dark comedy western film starring John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix playing as two hired assassin brothers who went into a mission of finding a particular someone to capture and kill as instructed by their employer. The film is directed by Jacques Audiard and its plot is based on a novel of the same name written by Patrick deWitt. It also stars big names such as Riz Ahmed and Jake Gyllenhaal playing as supporting characters on the film.

It's a mix of both being comedic and dramatic film at the same time. The film successfully balanced these two very different genres into one single film. I like the story of these two notorious assassins. These brothers have so different personalities and I liked every moment from the film in which they will have some conflicts/fights due to their differences. John Reilly playing as Eli Sisters, the older brother, managed to show as more of the mature and responsible one with a very sincere attitude that really contradicts Joaquin Phoenix's character Charlie Sisters as the reckless and immature one. You know that he's going to play Joker on the new Joker standalone film and on this film you could see a few of these performances of what he's about to bring playing as the crazy and unpredictable Joker. It's a film that is focused on character storyline and we get to see much of this progression or character development involving on these brothers as they goes along with their adventure. The cinematography of this film was also good. There are some beautiful landscape shots of the film which is set in this hot and dangerous place from the wild wild west. As also mentioned, there were some comedic moments from the film that really made me chuckled. The comedic timing of these two leading actors felt really natural and I would really love to see a film again having them in a pure comedy film. There are also some sad and heavy moments of the film and it was quite painful to watch.

OVERALL

THE SISTERS BROTHERS is a good independent film that managed to combine two different genres that is a comedy and at the same time a dramatic one. It has a solid storyline focused entirely on characters specifically with these two brothers and also managed to entertain me with some comedic moments along with it. The performances were great and the story was beautiful that talks about brotherly love. I would recommend you to check this one out if you're a fan of independent films with a story heavily focused on character's development and progression. It's a film that is worth checking out.
