White Boy Rick is a biographical crime drama film which is based on a true story of a boy named Richard Wershe Jr. who became the youngest FBI informant. The film is directed by Yann Demange and stars Richie Merritt playing Richard Wershe Jr. a.k.a "White Boy Rick" and Matthew McConaughey who plays the father Richard Wershe Sr.

Every movie that Matthew McConaughey is in, I am instantly hooked by it. He's got a huge charisma and his performance from this film really shows how good of an actor he is. The story of this boy nicknamed "White Boy Rick" has a really sad story. You know, doing some bad things because you're in a bad predicament doesn't really justify all the crime that you have done. That's why every country has laws and law excuses no one. The film shows the early life of Richard Wershe Jr. on how he came to be the youngest FBI informant, on how he got involved in selling drugs and how he got all things fucked up. The whole film is about family. There were some really emotional scenes between the children and the father. Matthew McConaughey's performance in this film really gave me some hope in life. I really like that his character shows so much positivity despite all the shitty things that he and his family have been surrounded with. There are parts of this film that didn't really click on me. The first is the pacing of it. Things really happened so fast at the halfway part of it. I didn't quite manage to take it in and it really felt to me that it was rushed. Second is the performance of the lead playing the "White Boy Rick". As a young actor playing on a first major lead role, you would consider putting an extra effort on your performances. His performance on the film is like a switch, sometimes it's on and he can really nail some emotional parts but sometimes it's just so off that it's like a blank page that you would have to figure out for yourself. He can a bit boring at some point due to this kind of performance.

OVERALL

WHITE BOY RICK is a film that I felt so many emotions while watching it. I like the story between the father and son. Watching this film really made me miss my Dad. The film has some solid performances coming from Matthew McConaughey, he has always been so great on all of his films (except for Dark Tower). I didn't quite like the overall performance coming from the new actor playing the lead. He's still young and he can still improve on his performances. I didn't like the pacing halfway of the film cause to me it really felt that everything happened so fast. However, I did like the film just because of its very sad and hopeful story and also the amazing performance from Matthew McConaughey.
