It's a thriller film starring Joaquin Phoenix as Joe a disturbed, traumatized hired gunman who tracks and finds missing trafficked girls. The story revolves when one job of his went out of control, he must overcome his resurfaced nightmares in order to finish his job and live. This film just cements Joaquin Phoenix stature as one of the best, dedicated working actors today. His performance in this film is so powerful that I couldn't imagine someone else playing this character. Joe is broken man and Joaquin just channels his one of the best performances on that character. This film was truly intense all 90mins of it. It's a brutal, intense and thought-provoking film that somewhat reminds me of the likes of "The Guest" and "Leon The Professional". The vision of this film was daring and all thanks to the director Lynne Ramsay who directed this with just and pure art, such a wonderful piece.

OVERALL
YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE is a slow-burner film and may take a while for it to grab your focus. There's a point from the film that is so intense. The movie is deep as it also talks about some sensitive subject matter but as a film, it's a different feeling seeing this.
